Diabetes prevention, reversal and weight loss

I may have mentioned it before, but I am in a diabetes prevention class that emphasizes weight loss by cutting out some fat DIETfrom our diets. According to a book I have researched and follow to some extent titled Dr. Neal Barnard’s Program for Reversing Diabetes, Dr. Barnard places some very strict standards on what can and what should not be eaten including fat. The “diet” or “lifestyle” change to be more accurate, is very restrictive on fats, oils, salt, and sugar. It is predominately a vegetarian type of diet.

When I followed the lifestyle very actively, I not only lost weight but also was able to keep my blood sugars in check better. Still, it was not completely sustainable for me because I am torn about the issue of eating meat as protein. I grew up eating meat on a daily basis and I had a very hard time giving it up. And I don’t care what anyone says, veggie burgers do not taste like real meat!

I am not opposed to a vegetarian lifestyle, I just wasn’t ready for it. I am leaning more toward it now than I was then.

If you are interested in trying out a vegetarian lifestyle/diet, I fully recommend Dr. Barnard’s book. You can find it here on Amazon. I also recommend the print version of the book over the Kindle version because I’m old-school when it comes to following recipes… I like to have a book I can look at instead of looking at my phone or another device. That’s a personal preference for me.

Today’s Video

In today’s video, I talk about the diabetes prevention class along with a few other things. It is a longer video, but I think it is worth the watch.

Have a great day!

  1. I eat a lot of fat, oil, salt, and sugar, mainly sugar and salt, for myself.
I had no notion, however, that they were a major cause of diabetes.
I believe that people in all categories should keep a close eye on their nutrition since it can help them maintain their health.
I’m not a big meat eater, but I’d want to give vegetarianism a try to see how it feels and what benefits it offers.
Dr. Barnard’s book is one that I intend to read in the near future.

    Thank you so much.

  2. I have realized during this pandemic how important is weight loss. I am eager to try new healthy recipes and exercise. And so far I have been having success cutting out all the unhealthy meals I had. I also am excited to cook for my parents and encourage them the same way as I have been encouraged. Thank you very much for your nice post.
